Phone Scammers

Phone Scam

Sheriff BJ Barnes wants to alert the public about a phone scam that is targeting Guilford County residents. Many citizens have reported receiving phone calls from a subject claiming to be an officer with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office who tells the resident they missed a jury duty summons. Once engaging the citizen in conversation, the impersonator demands the citizen pay a fine or fee to avoid arrest.

An investigation was conducted on the phone numbers used and it appears to be an international scam that is not traceable. Sheriff Barnes recommends any citizen receiving these calls to hang up and should not provide any money or personal information to this impersonator.

Anyone with information or questions can call the Sheriff’s Office at (336) 641-3690
