Sheriff Barnes will be sworn in for 6th term in Office

On Monday, December 1st at 4:30 p.m., Sheriff BJ Barnes, will be sworn in again, as Sheriff of Guilford County, to begin his 6th term in office. With this term, Sheriff Barnes will be the longest serving Sheriff in Guilford County’s history. Sheriff Barnes began serving as Sheriff in 1994 and has over forty years of law enforcement experience.

Attempted Jail Escape

Sheriff BJ Barnes with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office reports that an inmate attempted to escape from the High Point Jail at approximately 8:30pm on November 18, 2014.

Detention Officer Assaulted

Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes reports that a Detention officer was assaulted which required medical treatment at High Point Regional Hospital.

AED’S Purchased for patrol vehicles

Sheriff BJ Barnes announces the Sheriff’s Office has purchased (20) Automatic External Defibrillators (AED’s) through the use of grant funds.

The agency will issue the twenty units out to patrol officers and Legal Process officers to provide coverage countywide, to include incorporated areas of Greensboro and High Point. These officers will be able to respond to assist EMS and the fire department on Cardiac Arrest calls, in an effort to increase the survivability of citizens suffering from cardiac problems. Many times deputies are already patrolling or answering calls in the neighborhoods where medical calls are received and may able to respond quicker with this life saving equipment.

Halloween Safety

SHERIFF BJ BARNES OFFERS TIPS FOR A SAFE HALLOWEEN

Soon our streets will be scattered with little ones, dressed as ghosts, goblins and witches, trick-or-treating this Halloween. “Halloween should be filled with surprise and enjoyment, and following some common sense practices can keep events safer and more fun,” said Sheriff Barnes. The Sheriff reminds all Guilford County residents to follow these safety tips:

Stolen Excavating Equipment

Sheriff BJ Barnes reports a Theft of Excavating Equipment that occurred on October 6, 2014 at 4943 Randleman Road. A Kabota Model 7040 tractor along with tractor and skid steer attachments were stolen. Additionally, an enclosed utility trailer with the company logo SMEX on the sides was also taken.
