Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officers

Sheriff BJ Barnes wants to alert the citizens of Guilford County, about a telephone scam, currently being conducted by individuals, who are posing as law enforcement officers and asking for money. The individuals are claiming there is an active warrant, for missed jury duty or other causes, and are demanding money be wired to them, or they will be arrested, within the hour.

Homicide on Friendship Church Rd

Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes reports on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at approximately 3:30 pm, deputies responded to 7301 Friendship Church Road in McLeansville on a report of a dead body inside the residence. Upon further investigation it was determined the deceased was the victim of a homicide.

Indecent Liberties with a Child

Sheriff BJ Barnes reports on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, Guilford County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Howard William Welch III, 826 Logandale Court, Greensboro, N.C. for two (2) counts of Incest with a Child, two (2) counts of Rape of a Child, two (2) counts of 1st Degree Statutory Sex Offense with a Child, and four (4) counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child. These charges resulted from an investigation into the activities of the defendant and a juvenile victim.

Welch was arrested without incident and confined under a $301,000 bond. Any additional media inquiries should be directed to Colonel Randy Powers at 641-6109.

Celebration of life tree lighting ceremony

Please join members of the community and the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office in the 2014 Celebration of life tree lighting ceremony honoring the citizens honoring the citizens who were victims of traffic fatalities in Guilford County in 2013.

The ceremony will be held at 4:00pm on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 on the front lawn at the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office,  400 West Washington Street, Greensboro, NC.

Sheriff Barnes will be sworn in for 6th term in Office

On Monday, December 1st at 4:30 p.m., Sheriff BJ Barnes, will be sworn in again, as Sheriff of Guilford County, to begin his 6th term in office. With this term, Sheriff Barnes will be the longest serving Sheriff in Guilford County’s history. Sheriff Barnes began serving as Sheriff in 1994 and has over forty years of law enforcement experience.
