Homicide suspects composite sketch

Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes reports an update on the homicide investigation from Wednesday, January 21st on Fairfield Road in High Point. A composite sketch was completed with a witness in this case. Suspect #1 (the shooter) is described as being 5’ 6” – 5’8”, dark skinned toned, and possibly had a slight African or Jamaican accent. He had an obvious scar below his right eye.

Investigative Checkpoint

Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes reports that on Thursday, January 22, 2015 members of the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office and High Point Police Department will be conducting an investigative checkpoint at the intersection of Fairfield Road and Hwy 62 today in an effort to gather more information regarding this case. Officers will gather at 11:30 am to coordinate the checkpoint to be conducted between 11:45 am and 12:45 pm. Any member of the public who was in the area who may have information is encouraged to meet with officers at this location today.

Charges to be filed in Accidental Shooting

Sheriff BJ Barnes reports that after careful review of the investigation regarding the Accidental Shooting that occurred on January 11, 2015 at 5816 Thacker Dairy Road, Whitsett, NC, the District Attorney’s Office has decided to go forth with charges.

Homicide on E Fairfield Rd

Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes reports on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at approximately 12:37 pm, deputies responded to 1603 East Fairfield Road in High Point in reference to an attempted robbery and shooting of an individual at his residence.  Upon arrival they found the victim, Vann Lee Yates (W/M, 57 YOA) suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.  The victim was transported to High Point Regional Hospital and later to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Escape from Custody

Sheriff BJ Barnes reports that on January 20, 2015 at approximately 8:40 PM, Bobby Ray Williams, Jr escaped from the custody of the Guilford County Detention facility located in Greensboro. Williams was in the process of being surrendered to the detention facility by a bail bondsman due to failing to appear in court on a Driving While Impaired charge.

Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award

Sheriff BJ Barnes is proud to announce, Guilford County Sheriff’s Office volunteer, Julie Beane, has been presented with the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award, for her years of dedicated service to the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Guilford County. Originating from the office of the President of the United States, this rarely given honor is signed by President Obama and is awarded to those who have given more than 4,000 hours of volunteer service to community organizations. The award was presented to Julie at a recent VIPS (Volunteers in Police Service) meeting by the Community Resource Unit supervisor, CWO Rik Stevens.
