Phone Scammers

Phone Scam

Sheriff BJ Barnes wants to alert the public about a phone scam that is targeting Guilford County residents. Many citizens have reported receiving phone calls from a subject claiming to be an officer with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office who tells the resident they missed a jury duty summons. Once engaging the citizen in conversation, the impersonator demands the citizen pay a fine or fee to avoid arrest. 

An investigation was conducted on the phone numbers used and it appears to be an international scam that is not traceable. Sheriff Barnes recommends any citizen receiving these calls to hang up and should not provide any money or personal information to this impersonator.

Handgun Permit

Under North Carolina General Statutes, the Sheriff of each county is directed to issue weapon permits to qualifying residents of his county, and to non-residents of the county who are collectors. All applications must be completed at the Sheriff's Office in the presence of an officer or the Pistol Permit Clerk. Read more....

 

Concealed Carry

As of December 1, 1995, certain residents of North Carolina may be eligible to obtain a permit which would allow them to carry a concealed handgun under certain conditions. N.C. Gen. Stat. 14-415.11 No other weapons may be carried concealed pursuant to such permit. Read more....
